Story

I’ve often wondered if the running shoe companies were involved in a conspiracy to insure that barefoot runners are rarely, if ever, seen winning races.

But there’s another conspiracy that’s designed to make sure that any fast runners don’t stay fast for long.

If someone wins a local race, like I just did in Huntington Beach at the Surf City Run (residents only race), then they might win a pair of shoes. This, of course slows them down in future races, so that others can win. In case the runner is still fast enough, despite being handicapped by running shoes, to win bigger races, then they might win a car. Then the runner starts driving everywhere, and, like most Americans, looses fitness, and slows down.

At least this conspiracy helps level the playing field, so new fast runners can win races

But, I gave my new shoes away, so the plan isn’t going to work on me, at least not until I win that new car!
