2019-05-03 Nike Free Barefoot Running Event, Huntington Beach, California

Nike invited me to talk about barefoot running to a class of about 35 students. After warning the students that beach sand and grass, contrary to popular misconceptions, are not the ideal terrain for beginning barefoot running, since; 1. You don’t get much feedback to teach gentle running techncique, and 2. there can be sharp objects hiding in the grass or sand, and that most of you probably won’t get any cuts on your feet, but some of you might, we went for a short run on the beach. One fellow did cut his foot.

I offered copies of my book, Barefoot Running Step by Step for each of the students, and Nike gave each of the students a Free pair of Nike Free shoes. So now they have Nike Free shoes, and a book explaining how and why they don’t need Nike Free shoes!
