Mission

The mission of the SNRC is to expand the current understanding of running related, musculoskeletal injuries with a focus on treatment and prevention, and to use this understanding to provide our patients with the most effective evidence-based care.

Bobbi Gibb is the first woman to run and complete the Boston Marathon, six years before female participation was officially accepted. She also won the Boston Marathon from 1966-1968.

Sara Mae Berman and her husband were the founders of the Cambridge Sports Union, the first competitive sports club for men and women in New England. She was also a member of the first US Women’s National Nordic Team.

Dr. Julia Chase-Brand is a female distance runner who was inspired to run by famous distance runner John J. Kelley. Dr. Brand holds a PhD in Zoology and an MD from Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

The Director of the Spaulding National Running Center. She is an internationally renowned clinician and biomechanist, and has been treating runners and researching running mechanics and injuries for 25 years.
